A letter to our ladies...
Dear ladies,
It’s incredibly hard to know where to start because things are changing constantly and you are being BOM.BAR.DED. with content from every person you’ve ever given your email to right now. However, it just didn’t feel quite right for us to go silent, particularly when so much of the impact of COVID-19 will be financial and disproportionately impact women and those with limited power and privilege.
So, before we go any further, please know that we are sending you and your loved ones as much love as possible, and we hope that wherever you are, you’re managing to stay as safe and well as you can. Even though we’re a new community - we want you to know that we see you and we love you and we are here for you.
Like many of you, we’ve been bunkered down trying to think about the best approach to communicating and providing content during this time. We’ve been trying to figure out how we could provide you with valuable tips to safeguard your finances, but also acknowledging the reality of the grief and uncertainty and stress that many of us are feeling right now (as well as the optimism, opportunity, creativity that is also flourishing for some right now). Is it appropriate for us to be continuing our ‘Ladies Talk Money’ conversations or, maybe they are exactly the type of thing that should continue! A welcome distraction? It’s a tall order and there’s no ‘right’ way or playbook we should be following, but we want to stay true to our values of no shame, no jargon, no stigma, and open honesty. So here goes.
Essentially, we believe that Ladies Talk Money addresses fundamental issues related to women and their finances, and just as they won’t go away during this time - neither will we.
This is what you can expect from us for the next month:
A couple of specific COVID-19 resources for having money conversations and supporting yourself financially right now
Episode 2 of Part Two, a blog on Mastering Money in your 30s and another on watching your language - all deliberately with no reference to coronavirus to give you a break if you need it
Email inboxes and DMs that are open and available for you, anytime (hello@ladiestalkmoney.com.au)
A couple of live couch sessions on Instagram and Facebook to answer your burning money questions and to provide solidarity and sisterhood during this time
We are in the process of putting together a small list of tips to try and help you through the potentially tough times ahead. We have tried to include only things that are useful and actionable, but it might not even be what you need right now, so you have our complete and wholehearted permission to say ‘thanks but no thanks Jess and Chandel’, then step back, mute everything and take care of yourself. It’ll be coming your way at the end of the week.
Of course, all of this might change as we prioritise our health and wellbeing and respond to what our community of fabulous ladies needs most right now.
However, until next time, please stay as safe and well as you can, and if it helps at all, just know that we are right here with you.
With love and solidarity,
The LTM team xx
