Lady, we have some hard truths to share…
Society effectively functions on the exploitation of women, and on the backs of some women more than others. Think about it like this: women are significantly overrepresented in the unpaid work economy (covering everything from childcare to household chores and even the care of elderly parents or people with a disability). Plus, paid work performed by women is valued less than work performed by men, with women-dominated industries shown to attract lower wages.
Clearly, the way society devalues women’s work is going to have serious long-term implications, which brings us to another important part of the conversation: superannuation. The economic discrimination and inequality we face compounds over our lifetime, leading women to retire with 47% less super than the average man.
We’re tired of letting the patriarchy tell us what our work is worth. So, let’s start with a conversation and turn those words into meaningful action for us and the women around us. Ready? Let’s do it!
